The other day my girlfriend veganfemme: and I were talking about self care, and she mentioned wanting to try out an auromatherapy eye pillow. I loved the idea of being able to come home from a hard, stressful day of work and creating a relaxing space/time to lay down and just let the soothing scents of lavender and rosemary (or whatever oils/herbs you choose to use) work to help calm and center you.
She didn’t know it at the time, but I immediately started scheming on how I could make her one. I like to think of myself as pretty crafty and this sounded like something I could easily make. It really was super simple! I found tutorials like this one to help out with beginner sewers who might want to use a sewing machine to make one that looks a little more professionally done.
Our sewing machine is broken right now, so I actually used a hot glue gun to piece the front panel strips of fabric together. Then I just hand stitched the back panel to the front one, and used rice and quinoa as the filling since it was what we had on hand. It turned out really great! I loved it so much, I made one for me too! Only I used some old worn through t-shirts that don’t fit me anymore to make mine an awesome Rock ‘n’ Roll inspired design. Devo is one of my favorite bands!
I hope this was helpful and everyone starts making their own eye pillows! They make great presents for the holidays too!
